Abrão: “Too Late To Ganges (Red Axes Remix)”

Âme’s Frank Wiedemann calls up friends and family for remix duties on nine tracks from the back catalogue of his eclectic label, Bigamo, reaching for some of the most respected names in electronic music to dig into the archives. The first three form the first of a trio of remix EPs, with Red Axes, Sado V (one half of Red Axes) and Dengue Dengue Dengue taking their talents to tracks from Brazilian-born Israel-based singer/songwriter Abrão and duo Keope.

Tel Aviv power pair Red Axes are no stranger to Abrão’s work, with the latter’s vocals featuring on their 2014 debut album “Ballad Of The Ice” on I’m A Cliché and 2015’s “Sabor” EP. The familiarity shows itself in the Israeli duo’s careful rearranging of “Aguas Sagradas Do Ganges” into a sundowner-set beauty, opening the track up to the dancefloor whilst preserving the original’s measured approach and plaintive vocals. Sublime from start to finish. The original track is lifted from Abrão’s 2018 “Omnam” LP, produced by Red Axes.

The “Bigamo Remixed Pt. 1” EP is out now via Bigamo. Get it here.

#YouAreNotAlone: With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite album or a track for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. An album a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.

Today Red Axes, our beloved Tel Aviv-based duo of Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi, shares with us a favourite track, Tommy Jay’s “Memories”, along with a photo form the countryside where they’re isolated.

“Hi! Red Axes here form our quarantine places. Would love to recommend you to listen to this song ‘Memories’ by Tommy Jay, taken from his great album ‘Tommy Jay’s Tall Tales Of Trauma’. The album is kind of collection of eccentrically-produced folky outsider rock sounds, an 8-track recorder with lo fi attitude, some casio drums and a lot of freedom and inspiration. Also could not avoid the name of this album due to the situation… Take care.”

This year marks the tenth of collaboration for Red Axes, the Tel Aviv-based duo of Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi. Informed by post-punk, new wave, and a plethora of club sounds old and new, they have cleaved a singular path with their hefty discography. To celebrate their anniversary, they reunite with Dark Entries for an eponymous 11 track LP brimming with jagged guitars, spacy arpeggios, and hypnotic vocals. The “Red Axes” album will drop on May 8th via Dark Entries Records.

Although Sadovnik and Arzi have previously released LPs on I’m A Cliche and Garzen Records, Red Axes is their first effort written and conceived of as an album-length listening experience. This work flows effortlessly through a variety of stylistic detours, highlighting their ears as both keen listeners and skilled DJs.

Before it drops, we’re treated to the record’s great first single “Sticks & Stones”, featuring Adi Bronicki, which comes hand-in-hand with a video directed by Sergei Rostropovich. As they say: “Created and shot a while ago, but feels more relevant then ever. Weird times, but music, art and life got to keep on moving”.”

Words: Elice

One of the most important things in music is personality. It’s that magical moment when you listen to a track and you know who the creator is; you sense who’s behind all these sounds. And that is among others Red Axes’ distinctive characteristic. And we couldn’t possibly expect less from our favorite label Dark Entries that crosses the finishing line of 2019 with a sublime release. A 4-track EP called “Voom” by the mighty Red Axes is on its way and we are more than excited. Straight from Tel Aviv the prolific production duo of Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi are loyal to their signature sound, whilst breathing –their one of a kind – fresh air to the electronic music scene. We all admire their weird sonic artefacts mixing post-punk, new-wave, Italo-disco, acid, EBM, which lead you directly to the dance floor. Their music is a fantastic blend of inspired moods.

Today, we’re psyched to premiere the EP’s last track, the 10-minute ecstatic anthem “Prblems”. The tune shouts out “Red Axes are here”. The track “Prblems” is tireless and it grows darker and more powerful as the minutes pass by. Militant drums, battered electronics and lovingly drowned traditional instruments hypnotically pulse and reverberate. It’s the perfect late-night or early-morning DJ’s selection that creates one of the most memorable moments of your time out. You close your eyes cause you feel to, you sense the tracks’ bewitching vibe and rhythm and you have a majestic stellar ride. Blast it above!

The “Voom” EP drops on December 6th via Dark Entries. Pre-order here.
