Dukes of Chutney, the transcontinental trio of Dustin Lynn, John Paul Jones and Petra, return to Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space Records with their long-awaited debut album, entitled “Hazel”, set to drop in September. The 11-track album explores life’s wandering ways while widening its path. Recorded from remote yet commonly tranquil corners of the world over a six year span, “Hazel” is illustrated from a colorful palette of dub, folk, Balearic, and otherwise blissful sounds, somehow escaping categorization in its pursuit of uninhibited joy.

Our first taste from the record comes in the form of “Little War”, a finely crafted tune featuring Wovette on guitar and bass. On “Little War”, Dukes of Chutney concoct a dream beat about love for the sake of love. Even when love can lead to conflict when laid bare and vulnerable, “Little War” is redemptive as it is immersive in its call for care before conflict. The single arrives with a video by Dustin Lynn. Watch it above.

Dukes of Chutney’s “Hazel” will be available digitally and as a gatefold, double LP on September 4 via Beats In Space Records. Pre-order it here.

London-based producer/musician Kelly Lee Owens has shared a beautifully shot video for her new single “On”, from her forthcoming album “Inner Song”. The track “On” is a rustling electro-pop glimmer that gives way to yo-yo synths and a tough-as-nails techno backbeat. It’s the alpha and omega of the Kelly Lee Owens experience, reflective of her ability to contain sonic and emotional multitudes within just one song. Shot on the Norwegian coastline, its accompanying video sees Kelly collaborating once again with Kasper Häggström, who also directed her “Throwing Lines” video. Like the song, it tells the story of a breakup.

The album “Inner Song” arrives on August 28th via Smalltown Supersound. Pre-order it here.

The Swedish west coast groove unit, Oktoberklubben, aka OK!, has always been (and still is) about snake-like guitar leads and rhythmic synths. Dancey, hooky and laid back, all at the same time. A place where Brian Eno, African Head Charge and Fleetwood Mac are allowed to share a mutual musical vision with the Swedish west coast archipelago functioning as an inspirational canvas.

Having already wowed us with their sublime debut 12” on West Coast Recordings back in 2017, the Gothenburg-based duo of André Laos and Edvin Edvinsson are back with a superb four-track EP, entitled “Adios Zorro”. It marks the pair’s first original material since 2018’s debut LP “The Orust Tapes”, a finely crafted record of blissed-out grooves and sun-soaked hazy vibes. The EPs lead single “Zorro”, a subtle homage to departed band member Räven, sees OK! delivering stunning disco-infused balearic summer vibes. Itfeels like a sunset drive along the coast. The single comes accompanied by a brilliant video directed by Gabriel Gezaw. Watch the video above, and check out their previous single “Flying” below.

The “Adios Zorro” EP is out now via [PIAS] Nordic. Get it here.

Premiere | Wax Museum: “Reality” Video

We’ve been trying to find the proper words to present our special premiere today cause it’s really amazing and no words seem enough. It was the punk spirit that brought six talented people together in Berlin and led them to create the band Wax Museum in 2019. Bryan Dunleavy, Yaz Uemura, James Foster, Daniel Cherney, Pierre Auradon and Diego Benelli, all from different parts of the globe, made midnight forays into the studio which was very much used as a compositional tool. Contrapuntal melodies, cleverly sequenced synthesizers, multiple percussive layers and vocal choirs reminiscent of an Orffian choir defined the approach. Their debut EP “I Will Probably Do The Opposite” drops next month via Unsustainable records; a digital-only-release comprised of two tracks, “Reality” and “Slovenly Shop”. And judging by these two masterpieces, we wish we had a whole album to listen to.

Today we are excited to premiere the fantastic video for “Reality”, created by Prague-based animator Leo Nikolaev. The production of the video took him 4 months, the piece consisting of 4200 original images. We couldn’t imagine of a better video for the track. You may find yourself in it, you may find the world you’re dealing with every day in it and “if you perceive it, it must be true”.

The video is a work of art and the track as well. It feels like it jumped out of the post punk revival scene of the early 00’s meeting along with the absolute funky groove that springs from the excellent bass and the 70’s great funk guitar. The straight beat, the cowbells and the vocals – sincerely post punk – integrate the perfection of the track. We can’t stop singing “Back to Reality”. Watch the video above, and enjoy this marvelous ride!

The “I Will Probably Do the Opposite” EP drops on June 1st via Unsustainable records.
