Having established himself as one of the biggest names on the nu-disco scene with his 2016 superb debut album “Panorama Pacifico”, Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets, cemented that success with his 2019 follow-up “Solar Nights” that saw the prolific German producer broaden his sound, collaborating with songwriters and vocalists from around the world to stunning effect.

Returning to the studio in 2020, Bernhardt has been inspired to return to his instrumental roots, the lessons learnt from the past few years applied to the dreamy, laid-back electronic music that he first made his name with and which can now be heard on his great new EP “Hidden Treasures” on Eskimo Recordings. The record’s four tracks are 100% undiluted and unfiltered Satin Jackets, imbued from start to finish with the chilled vibes and charm of his debut, the technical skill and musicality of its follow up, and crucially the confidence of a producer who in 2020 is at the top of his game.

“I’ll always enjoy working with great vocalists,” affirms Tim. “But for me instrumental tracks have this magic, this power that unfolds in their own unique way. Unbound by any kind of song structure or decisive meaning I can design them in my own way and focus more on the mood and the feeling. That’s why I decided to continue on that path with this EP, and the result is four tracks that tell a story about a particular chapter of my life. At the same time they’re open enough for the listener to insert their own story into it.

Today we are delighted to premiere the EPs closer “Sassa And Back”, a reflective slice of heavenly disco, underpinned by elegant strings that tease us throughout the track before stirring into something truly transcendent yet at the same time quietly understated. We’d expect nothing less from Satin Jackets. Get your fill of “Sassa And Back” and ride with us.

Satin Jackets’ “Hidden Treasures” EP arrives on July 17th via Eskimo Recordings.

Roland Tings: “First Wave”

Melbourne-based dance producer Rohan Newman, aka Roland Tings, returns with his new EP, entitled “First Wave”, after last year’s sun-soaked album “Salt Water”. Rather than following suit of the highly collaborative album that preceded it, “First Wave” signals a return to Newman’s instinctive and solitary approach to songwriting, the same ethos that guided him while crafting his earliest Roland Tings material.

Drawing inspiration from his coastal surroundings, the five-track “First Wave” EP is liquid, malleable and oil-slick. The sonic throughlines are clear: drum machines and 80s snare, swirling pads with rolls of bass, and glittering arpeggios that channel shimmering sea creatures under the water’s surface.

Our first taste comes in the form of the EPs superb title track that captures the essence of the record, a feeling of euphoric come-up, inspired by a fleeting moment of beauty. In his own words: “I was surfing alone mid-morning in a nice place in the bush. The sun was rising behind me. I looked down as I cut across the face of the wave I was riding and was amazed by its deep emerald-green shot through with sun. Fish were swimming along at the same pace against the sandy bottom. The sun was glinting off their silver bodies and they looked like mirrors shooting through the water.” Blast it above.

The “First Wave” EP arrives on August 14th via Cascine. Pre-order it here

We are surrounded by tones of music, both good and bad, that it’s more difficult to find the ones giving you the chills. We even wonder if there is more to be discovered and delivered in terms of musical genres, or have we pushed innovation to its limits? And while we have these questions and thoughts, Greek London-based visionary musician, producer, and performer Stavros Potamitis, aka Stevie R, is here with the follow-up of the first part of his mini-album release, “Oropós”, offering three more doses of groundbreaking, goose-bumping sounds.

“Ta Paidia Tis Geitonias” continue to push Stevie’s beloved creation, the Rebetronica sound; the combination of his homeland folk music Rebetiko with analogue electronics, indie, techno, and dark disco influences. This great album is the result of Stevie R’ s partnership with London-based prolific DJ and producer, Constantinos Parisinos, aka Parisinos, who is also the co-owner of the experimental label Inside Out Records together with Stevie. “Ta Paidia Tis Geitonias”, which will drop on Chapter 24 Records, is the epitome of what we call forward-thinking and the negative answer to our question above; new ideas that make us shiver still exist.

As can be seen, we are delighted that LAGASTA is premiering tonight the second splendid track of the mini album’s second part, named “Saté Saté Saté”, an epic ride to an analogue paradise. Layers of diverse synths are popping up while the drum machine is playing games with your ears, the melody sounds wicked, the awkward vocal samples join the club and the bassline, which is an earworm in itself, holds everything together. A 70s psychedelic feel gives the piece the air of the classic and the blend is simply amazing; a track you will definitely dance to. Blast it above, exclusively on LAGASTA.

“Ta Paidia Tis Geitonias” drops on July 15th via Chapter 24 Records. Pre-order it here and welcome yourself to the musical cosmos of Stevie R.

Mexico is on fire and one massive collaboration is ready to do some serious dancefloor damage. Cani, from our beloved Zombies in Miami, and Young Drums, the Salamanca originated talented duo, gave birth to Haunted Strasse & Young Drums, and their debut release will be out on their label Haunted Space Records. A 4-track EP with the finest, powerful electro cuts and we couldn’t expect less from their creators. Both Cani and Young Drums are what we call hybrid; they combine different kinds of music, making themselves sound deep and dark but vibrating and bright at the same time.

Today we are excited to premiere the EP’s first smashing track, “Connection”. Making its entry with an industrial, strong beat, you sense early the tune’s dark electro-and electrifying- atmosphere, with arpeggiated synths playing a prominent role. Its harsh, EBM style sound gets softened by a gentler synth drifting melody, which as the end approaches enters the acid zone. The awkward echoed vocals match perfectly with the rest elements of this awesome, dynamic track. It’s gonna be every DJ’s peak-time choice. Listen to “Connection” and enjoy the ride!

Haunted Strasse & Young Drums debut EP “Connection” drops on July 3 via Haunted Space Records. Pre-order it here.

Dukes of Chutney, the transcontinental trio of Dustin Lynn, John Paul Jones and Petra, return to Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space Records with their long-awaited debut album, entitled “Hazel”, set to drop in September. The 11-track album explores life’s wandering ways while widening its path. Recorded from remote yet commonly tranquil corners of the world over a six year span, “Hazel” is illustrated from a colorful palette of dub, folk, Balearic, and otherwise blissful sounds, somehow escaping categorization in its pursuit of uninhibited joy.

Our first taste from the record comes in the form of “Little War”, a finely crafted tune featuring Wovette on guitar and bass. On “Little War”, Dukes of Chutney concoct a dream beat about love for the sake of love. Even when love can lead to conflict when laid bare and vulnerable, “Little War” is redemptive as it is immersive in its call for care before conflict. The single arrives with a video by Dustin Lynn. Watch it above.

Dukes of Chutney’s “Hazel” will be available digitally and as a gatefold, double LP on September 4 via Beats In Space Records. Pre-order it here.

Say hello to Ice Island, the project of Steven Hawley, previously the brainchild/frontman of indie dance ensemble, Codebreaker. After working with artists from The Juan Maclean, Miami Horror to Kathy Diamond & The Outrunners, Codebreaker ultimately disbanded in 2013. Going off the grid to focus on business endeavors and personal growth, Hawley quietly worked on new material honing a fresh inspiration and sound.

After debuted last year with “Enemies”, a collaborative tune with Tonebox, Ice Island just dropped his debut single “The General” and it’s a great one! It’s a big, warm, catchy tune with toughness and vulnerability. A new sound that still manages to hit with familiar, cinematic-like adventure. The single comes backed with an extended mix, a tasteful slice for extended disco enjoyment, and a superb remix by Los Angeles-based producer Woolfy. Enjoy the ride.

The single “The General” is out now. Buy it here.
