#YouAreNotAlone: With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite album or a track for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. An album a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.

Today our beloved French DJ, producer and Correspondant founder Jennifer Cardini, who’s currently based in Berlin, shares with us a favorite record to listen during the isolation, Beirut’s Sary Moussa album “Imbalance” on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People imprint.

“This album is an invitation to meditation, a break from the noise of it all. it’s full of light and beauty. It was recommended to me by someone I really love which somehow makes me feel less lonely. I hope it will help you too.”

Today we welcome our beloved Rohan Bell-Towers, the Melbourne-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer who records simply as Bell Towers. Let’s take a deep dive into an “Ocean Of Tenderness”, a track from Ashra’s 1977 LP “New Age Of Earth”, one of Bell Towers’ favourite records.

“‘Ocean Of Tenderness’ always puts me in a good place. Deep, pulsating and very smooth… “Breathe in, breathe out”… perfect for putting on when you get home from a rave, making out, or the soundtrack for blankly gazing out a window waiting for all this to end. Music for all seasons (and galaxies). I have owned this record for around 15 years and often find myself returning it.”

Today our beloved Tyler Blake, well known for his work as one half of LA duo Classixx, shares with us one of his favourite records to listen during the isolation, Talking Heads’ classic “Fear Of Music” LP.

“This album came out in 1979, six years before I was born. Fortunately, Talking Heads was the band my dad listened to the most throughout the 80’s, so I got the privelage of being exposed to ‘Fear Of Music’ at a young age. One of my earliest memories is flailing around my parents’ living room to this record. Only later in life did I pay attention to the lyrics. One of my favorite TH songs, ‘Life During Wartime’ is on this LP, and the chorus of that song feels appropriate to the times we are living in now. David Byrne sings, ‘This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no fooling around’. The fact that it’s nearly impossible not to get up and dance to the beat as he makes that proclamation has always brought a smile to my face. I think I’ll give it a spin now for another one.”

Today our beloved Severino, co-founder of London’s unstoppable disco musical express Horse Meat Disco, shares some sweet, sweet love for all the quarantine souls out there.

“Her voice and style! Anita Baker’s ‘Sweet Love’ and the entire ‘Rapture’ album is that kind of chic sexy music from the ’80s. Obviously with Sade and the entire jazzy swing vibe from all other the world.”

Abstraxion shares with us one of his favourite records to listen during the isolation, Aphex Twin’s “Selected Ambient Volume II”.

“Aphex Twin is a big influence to me, as many other electronic producers of my generation. ‘Selected Ambient Volume II’ has taken a new meaning in this time. It’s even more interesting to dive deep into this ocean of sounds and listen from the beginning until the end.”

Today our beloved DFA stalwart Shit Robot, aka Dublin native Marcus Lambkin, shares with us one of the most beautiful pieces of electronic music he has ever heard, “Ballad Of Nicky McGuire” by Andrew Weatherall’s The Sabres of Paradise.

“‘Ballad of Nicky McGuire’ – If you’re looking for a warm hug in these strange times, this is not the guy. Ever since the passing of Andrew Weatherall I’ve been listening to this almost every day. As the album title suggests it’s haunting and cold but it’s also one of the most beautiful pieces of electronic music I’ve ever heard. The use of space is remarkable and when the synth melody kicks in about half way thorough, I’m done. It’s a real end of days record for me so if you’re feeling a little insecure about these times or a little sad maybe give it a miss, but for me, I can’t get enough.”¨

Today our beloved Curses, the dark and romantic moniker of renowned New York City native, Berlin-based producer Luca Venezia, shares with us “Mit Dir”, a timeless love song by DAF’s Robert Görl.

“DAF are a massive influence on me, and when I first heard this timeless love song by Robert Görl, it‘s simplistic, romantic, and dark energy resonated with me forever. The song now holds a new emotional meaning to me with the recent passing of Gabi from DAF. I’ve ended many a DJ set with this, and don’t see me stopping to anytime soon.”

#YouAreNotAlone: With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite album or a track for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. An album a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.

Straight from NYC, our beloved vocalist and songwriter Amy Douglas shares with us a song that means the world to her, Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”.

“I if I had to pinpoint one album just one above all others that takes me to the beginning of everything that means the world to me it is ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’. There are roughly about 10 artists who ultimately shaped my destiny and Elton John is in the top three. During times like this I often try to reach for the things that made me happy in childhood as my childhood was hardly happy, it was quite frightful. When you can reach down for the things that bring you joy in this case, the thing that ultimately started me on my path, It brings a sense of hope to the body quickly; to the spirit. It reminds you to hold on no matter what till the very end that there is always somewhere a section of the sky with a perfect sun in it. In this case ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ achieves not only the tears inducing magic that takes me back to being a kid, lonely and constantly dodging toxic bullets at home and school, and how every time this album began I saw the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ in the title, illuminated.

‘Funeral for a Friend’ kicks off and I’m gone. Elton John is a musical Sherpa and a spiritual guide of my life. ‘Oh I finally decided my future lies beyond the yellow brick road?’ I don’t even know that a yellow brick road existed and was possible until this album. Gloriously drenched in fantasy without being a concept album it also features some of the best musical moments from the band completely amazing playing by his brilliant band Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson and the criminally underrated Dee Murray, all proving they could SING like Gods-Listen to the vocal backup track on ‘Candle In The Win’ and ‘Harmony’! Gus Dudgeon’s production already otherworldly soars to new heights. The songs are already legendary, but the album cuts are every bit as appealing. Bernie Taupin’s lyrics always some of my favorite ever penned are all the more personal and candid as fame now clearly overwhelms.

Then the maestro, my hero of heroes the perfect messenger for a walk down the gilded path of dreams and vision and hope, singing and playing as never before and that is SAYING something, because when is Elton Hercules John NOT the best you EVER heard? It’s that solo on ‘Benny and The Jets’. This is a majestic masterwork, both utterly maximalist and utterly intimate and soul baring. It’s my Balm In Gilead.”

#YouAreNotAlone: With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite album or a track for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. An album a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.

Today we welcome the mighty German producer and Toy Tonics label head honcho Mathias “Munk” Modica, aka Kapote, who had also founded the label Gomma Records before. Kapote shares with us a great album from Rammellzee, a legendary artist, graffiti writer, hip-hop pioneer, myth-maker, and a New York icon.

“It might be a bit selfish, but I’m using quarantine to check out old production I did for our former label Gomma. Today I’m listening to the album of Rammellzee, a graffiti and street-art artist from New York City. I had the luck to produce an album with him in 2006 together with Death Comet Crew and JJ Whitefield of Poets of Rhythm, “Bi-Conicals Of The Rammellzee”. The album came on our label Gomma is quite sick, more art than dance music, a sonic experiment that was an amazing experience. Let’s see maybe we could do some remixes, 2020 versions…”.
