A Track A Day: Max Essa

A Track A Day: Max Essa

For LAGASTA’s ongoing series, we asked our friends to choose a favourite track or an album for these weird times, and share it with us along with a photo. A track a day keeps the bad vibes away. Today we welcome our beloved Balearic maestro and founder of the vinyl-only Jansen Jardin Max Essa. An Englishman in Tokyo, acclaimed DJ and producer Max Essa is a man who needs no introduction. The ever-prolific artist and founder of the vinyl-only Jansen Jardin label has now been releasing his blissed-out beats and masterfully sun-kissed disco gems on labels such as Is It Balearic?, Aficionado, Music For Dreams, Hell Yeah Recordings, Palms & Charms, amongst others, for a decade. Max Essa shares with us one of his favourite records, the 1976 “Windjammer” LP from the late Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard.

In his own words: “This is a copy of an LP called Windjammer by Freddie Hubbard. I was given this record by a wonderful gentleman in San Diego called Chris Renzulli, whilst I was in California to play some dates in the summer of 2013. The opening track, ‘Dream Weaver’, is an amazing piece of music which brings back many fond memories of that trip, playing in San Diego, L.A, and San Francisco.”
