Premiere | Borusiade: “Never Once Again”

April 28th, 2020

Berlin’s Ombra International label will drop a new compilation, “International Waters Vol. 1”, curated and crafted by label founder Luca Venezia, also known as Curses. A year in the making, the 13-track “International Waters Vol. 1” compilation comprises deep, emotional, heavy and sexy dark wave sounds from exciting artists from every corner of the world.

The compilation ranging from the psychedelic rolling technoid stomps of Adame Princess to smouldering shoegazing cosmosis of Dame Bonnet and so many talented individuals in between: Borusiade, Mufti, Roe Deers, Montessori, Alejandro Paz & Local Suicide, and many more. It also comes with a personal handwritten message by Curses himself: “‘International Waters Vol.1’ is a compilation I have been building for over a year. Listening to it now, the messages in these songs feel more relevant than ever. You can feel the tension. Human unrest rising to a better tomorrow, to a better today within all of these songs. Ombra International is a label focused on bringing different artists from their respective countries together, and now more than ever is a crucial time to be united worldwide.”

Today, we’re psyched to premiere the compilation’s closer “Never Once Again”, a great new track by Romanian-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer Miruna Boruzescu, aka Borusiade. Known for her gloomy, powerful and often dark sound, Borusiade recently graced us with her excellent second LP “Fortunate Isolation” on the acclaimed label Dark Entries. On “Never Once Again”, the incredibly talented artist delivers a deep, dark, atmospheric track of ’80s synths and hauntingly beautiful vocals that’s one thrill of a ride! Blast it above.

After getting your fill of “Never Once Again”, make sure to check out a cool PSA video that Curses has put together for “International Waters Vol. 1” below.

The “International Waters Vol. 1” drops on May 1st via Ombra International.

#YouAreNotAlone: Curses

April 14th, 2020

#YouAreNotAlone: With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite album or a track for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. An album a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.

Today our beloved Curses, the dark and romantic moniker of renowned New York City native, Berlin-based producer Luca Venezia, shares with us “Mit Dir”, a timeless love song by DAF’s Robert Görl.

“DAF are a massive influence on me, and when I first heard this timeless love song by Robert Görl, it‘s simplistic, romantic, and dark energy resonated with me forever. The song now holds a new emotional meaning to me with the recent passing of Gabi from DAF. I’ve ended many a DJ set with this, and don’t see me stopping to anytime soon.”

[Premiere] Curses: “Puttanesca”

July 30th, 2019

“They say an end can be a start” is what best describes today’s magnifique premiere. We welcome Motordiscs, a various artists record series created by Daniel Weil, the man behind former Parisian club Garage; the club was shut down on summer 2018. It was alive and lively for two years in the French capital, putting artists together and promoting an independent and alternative approach to electronic music parties. Motordiscs is its continuity, carrying Garage’s spirit and energy within it, and offering what the club used to offer; great vibes and great collectives.

The “Motordisc 1” EP is on its way and we are so excited to premiere A side’s first track “Puttanesca” by New Yorker/Berlin based artist Curses, who is known for blending Rock & Roll with the darker side of Disco, incorporating his ghostly vocals and guitar with flashes of EBM, New Wave, Post-punk, and psychedelic synth vibes.

The seven-minute track “Puttanesca” is all about it. It’s the track you feel the need to know what it is and who is responsible for this bouquet of surprises. A fantastic multi-dimensional tune with a steady beat, a melancholic and capturing guitar riff and as it develops the arpeggiator synth effects turn this ride into a melodic trip. Blast it above!

The “Motordisc 1” EP will drop on both digital and vinyl formats on September 6th. It also features tracks from the likes of Kasper Bjørke, Khidja and Zombies in Miami.

Curses: “So Good”

July 2nd, 2013

Welcome to the “New Gotham House”. NYC-based Luca Venezia, aka Drop the Lime, is making a triumphant return to the dancefloor with his new two-track EP, entitled “So Good”, under his longtime Curses guise, which has remained quiet since 2009.

True to its name, the EPs title track is an early ’90s-inspired wicked house cut with some seriously late-night vibes. It’s so damn good. The release also features another new track, the disturbed cinematic “Deep In The Night”, which was recorded in Paris with the Marble crew. Don’t miss this ride!
