A Track A Day: Hard Ton

A Track A Day:
Hard Ton

With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite track or an album for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. A track a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.

Next up on our “A Track A Day” series is Italy’s Hard Ton, the magical duo of DJ Wawashi and heavy metal singer Max with the larger than life disco sound and a surprising love of metal. Fresh off the release of their superb “Make Up” EP on Freeride Millenium, Hard Ton’s Max shares with us one of his favourite tracks, George Michael’s classic “I Want Your Sex”.

In Hard Ton’s Max own words: “George Michael is my ultimate pop hero and has been since I was a teen. Actually I owe him a lot because he’s the reason why I’ve started singing. After falling in love with Wham and with his voice, I realized that I wanted to be a singer too. So I took some singing lesson, and I started going with friends to Karaoke bars where I was noticed by this guy who approached me asking if I wanted to join his heavy metal band. I didn’t know that much about heavy metal back then, but hey that was my chance to be in a band and sing, so I said sure, let’s do it!. I fell in love with heavy metal, it was a fascinating new world for me and I recorded two albums with this band, whose sound is inspired by 80’s epic metal. Years after I occasionally met Mauro a.k.a. Wawashi on a chatline, and we found out right away our mutual love for music. He doesn’t like heavy metal at all, but he loved my voice, so he offered to do some music together and this is how Hard Ton was born.

By the way I had the chance to meet George Michael backstage at LoveBox in London years ago, I was still wearing my stage costume, and he was there talking with friends. I approached him, and asked for a pic, but I was so nervous, shocked and happy that I just said ‘can I take a pic with you, please?’ like a teenage fan! So we took a picture together, I said thanks and I called my mom right after to tell her ‘OMG, I’ve just met George Michael!’. I miss you George!”
