LA’s Poolside first album in three years is finally here, and it’s definitely worth the wait. Entitled “Low Season”, the eight-track record has been on repeat on our car stereo for a while now. The album, which follows 2017’s second LP “Heat”, marks the first Poolside album to be wholly helmed by producer/guitarist/DJ/vocalist Jeffrey Paradise.

Epic in aspiration yet intimate at its heart, the album is filled with sun-drenched synth pop, tidal rhythms, immersive electronics, tactile psychedelia, hazy house and pure daytime disco vibes. “‘Low Season’ is an album that is sonically and lyrically akin to traveling to someplace tropical then finding the beaches empty and the weather uncertain,” says Paradise.

Here, we have for you the track “I Feel High”, featuring Cut Copy’s Ben Browning on vocals, one of the record’s many highlights. Below, you can watch the video for the single “Around The Sun”, featuring shimmering vocals from Los Angeles-based psych outfit Amo Amo, which was directed by Bill Heffley.

LA’s Poolside are back after 18 months touring with a super band comprised of drummer Vito Roccoforte (The Rapture), bassist-singer Mattie Safer (The Rapture), percussionist Brijean Murphy (Toro Y Moi, U.S. Girls) and saxophonist-keyboardist/multi Casey Butler (Pharaohs).

Their new single “Can’t Stop Your Lovin’” is a sun-kissed collaboration with Australian R&B singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Panama. It’s just yet another fine example of Poolside’s signature daytime disco sound. As Jeffrey Paradise says: “This represents the new high-water mark for Poolside as it combines all the special elements that make up a classic Poolside jam with a well-developed vocal courtesy of Panama,” and he continues:“‘Can’t Stop Your Lovin’’ is the most fully realized vision of Poolside yet and I hope that it finds a place in the soundtrack to your life.” Great vibes all round!

Poolside: “Everything Goes” Video

LA’s Poolside have shared a beautifully shot video for “Everything Goes”, taken from the “Heat” LP, a “wild, tumbling, enchanting, bucket-list adventure”.

Speaking of the video Poolside’s Jeffrey Paradise says: “Cuba has always called to us – the vintage cars, the tropical colors, the majestically crumbling buildings, the music, the music, the music! We have an irresistible attraction to the artistic, celebratory spirit of our nearby neighbors that we’ve been forbidden to visit. We wanted to take some chances with this video – to work fast and loose and let the place, the moment, and the people reveal what the video should be. Our only plan was to stuff our backpacks with as much film gear and donated electronics, diapers, toys, and chocolate as we could, meet as many musicians and people as possible, and create a spontaneous love poem to Havana.’

Directed by Brent Bishop & Gregory Tuzin.

Poolside have shared a new video for their superb single “Feel Alright”, which feautres features legendary skateboarder Braydon Szafransk. The track “Feel Alright” is lifted from their second “Heat” LP, which will finally drop on May 18th.

Speaking about the video Poolside’s Jeffrey Paradise says: “The theme of ‘Feel Alright’ is about making the best of a subpar situation. More specifically in this video, it’s about being stuck in a life that’s not how you envisioned and still striving to find happiness and purpose. Skateboarding is used in a surreal way to symbolize Braydon’s attempt to escape his complacency by hitting the open road, yet the more he travels the more he goes nowhere fast. He can’t outrun himself or his life, however, along the way he lets go of the past. Braydon ultimately embraces the present and feels the satisfaction of living life in the moment, independent of external circumstances”. Watch the video above, and make sure to check out Yuksek’s remix of the track below.

Tycho’s track “Horizon”, a highlight from 2016 LP “Epoch”, points towards an entirely new skyline here under the guidance of Poolside. They flip the original from an introspective instrumental into a cosmic boogie, complete with handclaps and a choral refrain. “I was looking for a counterpoint in production for the remix. Poolside gave it a much sunnier vibe,” says Scott Hansen of Tycho. Poolside adds,“It’s tricky to approach a Tycho remix because there are no vocals. By definition, a remix would typically strip away the textures and layers, which are the signatures of Tycho, and use the vocals. We kept the original melody as the fingerprints and added classic Poolside synths and percussion.” Blast it above.
