Here’s the video for Moullinex’s fantastic cover of Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” (from the soundtrack of the movie “Flashdance”), which features Peaches on vocals. Taken from the new “Casablanca Reworks” EP, due January 13th on Gomma. For this project The Gomma All Stars (Moullinex, Telonius, Munk, and The Phenomenal Handclap Band) teamed up with Peaches and did four cover versions of songs from the catalogue of legendary Disco label Casablanca Records. Telonius took care of Donna Summer’s “Our Love”, The Phenomenal Handclap Band made a great cover of the classic “Walk The Night”, originally by the Skatt Brothers, and Stephanie Mills’ “You Can’t Run From My Love“ received a treatment by Munk. You can preview the whole thing here.

La.Ga.Sta. offered its services to many weary travellers once more this year. By “following rivers” they drove “through the green” and found themselves in “English Riviera” only to come back again to our station for another refill.
Taking a Friday drive down this year’s memory lane, we think back on our numerous stops including among others:
Our after-hours, absolutely wicked dj set in the VIP room of Melt! Festival. We might have missed Cut Copy’s performance but we certainly had a blast. Shout out to T.E.E.D., Azari & III, Metronomy, Siriusmo, and Planningtorock for their stunning gigs.
The 15-track La.Ga.Sta. Summer Compilation 2011 with lots of exclusives released in August and downloaded by more than 15.000 vroomers in less than a month. Thank you guys!
Dancing ‘till we dropped with the Can You Relate? team at their super cool parties in Thessaloniki together with The Magician, Shit Robot, Villa, Moullinex, In Flagranti, Acid Washed, and Stopmakingme.
A huge thanks coming out to all of you who filled up our inbox with tons of tunes and mixes, wish we could post them all. Keep them coming.
It’s always such a great pleasure sharing sounds, words and feelings with all the people we love. We don’t really like making lists since we always forget to include everything we loved through the year. But, by popular demand, our pit stop crew tried to bring the Best of 2011 lists (albums, tracks, remixes, EP’s, video) based on what we played most on our car stereo. It was certainly an amazing year with great releases that gave this station the “gas” it needed to carry on driving. Check out our lists below in no particular order. We don’t have winners or losers in this race only drivers that finally make it to the finish line.

Moullinex strikes again. This time with his new remix of Australian’s Voltaire Twins “Romulus”. We like it. And if wasn’t enough, the “Modular Jam” Remixes EP comes out this week on Gomma, with reworks by Justin Faust, Earl Grey (aka Danny from the C90s), Say Again, and Worship.

All the way to Portugal. We’ve already written about Mirror People, aka Portuguese producer Rui Maia, a couple of times. Now we have one more good reason to. Mirror People released today his debut 12” on Discotexas. The new track “Feel The Need”, sung by Rowetta (of Happy Mondays fame), sounds so good that you feel the need to never leave the dancefloor. And like if this weren’t enough, this track comes complete with remixes by Moullinex, Munk, Social Disco Club and Severino. It’s really hard to pick one. Preview the full release here, and check out the original version and Social Disco Club’s “Hi-Nrg” dub below. Fill it up!

They have never been to Cairo, but they manage to write one of the most infectious songs of the past few months. Kamp!’s new single “Cairo” (watch the video here) is finally out today on the always amazing Discotexas label with remixes by JBAG, Moullinex and Social Disco Club. Formed in 2008 in Lodz, Poland, the rising electro pop trio has already released three singles and their sound has often been described as melodic synth-pop influenced by 80′s new wave, 70′s krautrock and 90′s french house genres. Kamp! stopped by our station and talked to us about music, their influences and future plans. Check out their interview below and make sure you grab their first ever mixtape. Yes, it’s high time we went to Cairo!
La.Ga.Sta.: How did you guys meet and end up making music together? Kamp!: It’s a quite usual story, three music lovers with an eclectic taste and a huge room full of gear from teenage years in the suburbs. Classic.
What’s the story behind your name?
We always say that kamp means fight in Swedish but there are also some other aesthetic connotations. For us it’s just a good sounding abstract word.
Tell us something about your first release on Discotexas…
After three small releases in Brennnessel (our self-made label), we decided to try something else and go further. We thought of a few good alternative labels and Discotexas was definitely one of them. Professional, relaxed but extremely well organised. Luckily, they liked our demo!
What has influenced you the most?
We’re really nostalgic about the times when mainstream music was good music. So from that point of view we’re really into classics like David Bowie, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Giorgio Moroder or Prince. There’s plenty of ways to re-interpret such big musician and that’s also very inspiring. But hell, every good music is inspiring!
Which is your favorite sound?
Piano! We’re so in love in every piano sound, from synth generated shit to the grand piano.
We use it in almost every our song at the moment and that’s addictive and bad. Another one is the clap sound of TR-707 – sounds good everywhere!
Five words to describe Kamp!…
Hungry, disorganized, polite, lazy, bittersweet.
Which are your favorite tracks at the moment?
The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love?
Gwen Guthrie – Seventh Heaven (Larry Levan Remix)
Ford & Lopatin – Emergency Room
Inc. – Swear
Africa Bambaataa & UB40 – Reckless
Metronomy – The Bay
What are you most excited about right now?
We’re building a new studio in a beautiful place right now. So collecting all our musical gear in this particular place makes us really high! Hits to come.
What turns you on?
WEALTH!
What makes you feel bored?
Playing our old songs live. Can’t wait to blow out the new ones!
Which is your favorite destination?
Berlin.
What are your future plans? Should we expect a full album soon?
Definitely the LP is the greatest part of the plan. We’re almost done with recording it, but still need to find a good label to release it. And that’s the most complicated part of the plan.
Have you ever been to Cairo?
Only during the revolution…
Kamp!’s “Cairo” EP is out today on Discotexas. Stream the whole thing here. Buy here.
To celebrate the release, Kamp! have put together a tasty 40-minute mix. This is their first ever mixtape. There’s no tracklisting. Download it for free and enjoy.
