Johnny Jewel has put together a great mixtape, entitled “Running From The Sun”, with unreleased material from the sessions for Chromatics’ recent EP “Kill For Love”. In his own words: “Recorded November 2009 through December 2011, these songs were all mixed between 4 & 6 a.m. After hours of tracking at the studio in Montreal, we’d clear the channels on the mixer, open a bottle of wine, & feel around in the dark…working our way through the atmospheric elements & peeling back layers of rhythm…throwing the songs into the abstract pile & playing them while driving home in the snow.” This is a lullaby for you…
Tracklisting:
1. Dreaming In Color
2. Red Car
3. Kill For Love
4. Last Wish
5. Running From The Sun
6. Disintegration
7. These Streets Will Never Look The Same
8. Blue Moon

Directed by Alberto Rossini, here’s a nice driving video for “Over The Edge”. This track is taken from Johnny Jewel’s and Nat Walker’s (of Chromatics and Desire) “Symmetry – Themes For An Imaginary Film” project. It features 37-tracks of “claustrophobic cinematic bliss” and it was released back in December via Italians Do It Better. “Symmetry” isn’t Jewel’s score for Nicolas Refn’s latest film “Drive”. In case you haven’t heard it yet, stream the entire release here and drive through the night. Excellent release.

Chromatics: “Tick Of The Clock” (Drive movie edit) [mp3]
Glass Candy’s Johnny Jewel is giving away the edit of the Chromatics track “Tick Of The Clock”, which is included in Drive’s excellent soundtrack. In his own words: “A lot of people have been asking about the different version they are hearing in the film. The original “Night Drive” version is around 15 minutes long. Nat Walker (Chromatics/Desire) & I reconstructed it from the original tapes in order to make it heavier in the theaters & cut it to the picture. What we didn’t know was…the soundtrack people weren’t going to let people get it individually. They are trying to rope you into buying the whole album… But all the kids really want is Desire, Kavinsky, & College… So here it is for free. Pass it on”. Let’s drive..

“Hollywood Seven” has been a dancefloor weapon of Mike Simonetti’s DJ sets for almost six years. Also, it was the closing track “Disconet Dilemma” on Mike & Johnny’s December 2007 cult mix “Albuterol”. Now “Hollywood Seven” is finally out via Perseo, the sister edit label of Italians Do It Better. This new version of the track features Mike & Johnny’s unreleased extended edit. Don’t look at this as simply an “edit record”. Consider it a slice of unknown music history, an unlikely cover song that has become a dancefloor classic. Download it for free below.
In other news, Mike Simonetti just dropped his first solo EP “Capricorn Rising”. Stream the whole thing here and download the lead track “Third Of The Storms”, featuring Sam Sparro on vocals here.
