STR4TA: “Rhythm In Your Mind”

STR4TA: “Rhythm In Your Mind”

Get your groove on with Gilles Peterson and Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick’s new project.

Long time friends and collaborators Gilles Peterson and Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick have joined forces to create a new project STR4TA that captures the raw energy of the early-80s British funk scene.

Following the release of their debut track debut “Aspects” back in September, Gilles Peterson and Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick have returned with their superb new single “Rhythm In Your Mind” as STR4TA. It’s the second single from the pair’s forthcoming album “Aspects”, which will drop in March on Brownswood Recordings.

Inspired by the gritty DIY sounds of the cult 80s Brit-funk era, STR4TA is about drawing out the imperfections to reveal the raw soul of the music, spurring listeners on to bear their heart and soul on the dancefloor. STR4TA make music that is not driven by technical ability but by the soul or spirit, with the dirty funk energy at its core.

With the groove-filled tune “Rhythm In Your Mind”, STR4TA showcase another masterclass in wrapping a track tightly around the groove, showing off the taut musicianship of Francis Hylton, on bass, and Matt Cooper, on keys and drums. This is Brit-funk at its very best.

The “Aspects” LP arrives on March 26th via Brownswood Recordings.
