羅伯特: “Discharge”

Honey Soundsystem’s Bézier launches label with new album under his 羅伯特 alias.

San Francisco-based musician Robert Yang, aka Bézier, who is also part of the Honey Soundsystem crew, is kicking off 2021 in style with the launch of his label Piece of Work.

The first release on Piece of Work (PoW) comes from Robert Yang himself with a nine-track album, entitled “Heirloom”, under a new (eponymous) moniker 羅伯特 (pinyin Luó bó tè). Reflective, moody and heady, the record is “an homage to the work and sacrifice of pioneers.” Robert takes life growing up in the US into account. Past musical instances are recalibrated into a complex descriptor and then dispatched, track by track, motifs. “I would love to see the label serve more than a music scene but a wider community,” he says.

Before it drops, we’re treated to a stream of one of the record’s standout cuts “Discharge”, an eight-minute track that could be the opening theme for a romantic, sci-fi bildungsroman. It’s nothing short of exceptional.

The “Heirloom” LP arrives on January 12th via Piece of Work.
