It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard anything from The Galleria, the project of Metro Area’s Morgan Geist featuring Canadian R&B singer Jessy Lanza. The newest single, “Stop & Go”, an infectious dancefloor-friendly jam, makrks The Galleria’s second release since the 2015 debut, “Calling Card/Mezzanine”. Vocals are once again provided by Jessy Lanza, whose two solo albums on Hyperdub were met with critical acclaim and both shortlisted for the Polaris Prize. The single “Stop & Go” comes complete with a drum-a-pella for creative mixing, plus an extended dub. Needless to say, it’s already on repeat.

The “Stop & Go” is out now via Environ. Buy it here.

Last year, Hot Chip member and Greco-Roman co-founder Joe Goddard dropped his second solo album “Electric Lines”, and now he’s back with a new 12”, featuring two tracks “So Much” and Human Touch” aimed squarely at the dancefloor. In his own words: “‘So Much’ is a deep-ish house record inspired by the feel of something like the almighty classic ‘E.S.P. – It’s You’. I asked my friend Morgan Geist to mix it for me as he is fantastic at getting the feel of a record like that. The other side is about getting together in real life rather than through a screen, its called ‘Human touch’. It features my 808 heavily, as you will hear”. Here’s the record’s a-side cut “So Much”, a 10-minute late-night epic. It’s so damn good. Blast it above.

The “So Much/Human Touch” 12″ is out now on Domino. Pick up your copy here.

New York house maestro and Environ label boss Morgan Geist returns to his love for Detroit techno, Chicago tracks and generally exceptional dancefloor music with the second installment in his series of instrumental EPs: “Megaprojects Two”. The new four-tracker is a fine collection of low-tech tracks made with cheap little drum machines and rejected old synths. As he says: “This edition in the series includes homages to the incredible Manic 5 dam in Quebec as well as the demolished Orange Country Government Center (designed by Paul Rudolph) in upstate New York.” Get your fill of the record’s opener “Manic Cinq”.

Metro Area’s Morgan Geist, one of the most highly respected producers, is someone we’ve been following for a long time. The veteran NYC producer and Environ label boss, who is also known for his vocal house project Storm Queen, recently dropped the sublime Latin freestyle-inspired “Calling Card”/”Mezzanine” EP, featuring Canadian R&B singer Jessy Lanza, under his The Galleria alias.

Now, Morgan Geist is back with his new “Megaprojects One” EP after a seven year hiatus from recording under his own name. The four-track EP, his first Morgan Geist record since 2008’s “Double Night Time” LP, marks a welcome return to his love for Detroit techno, Chicago tracks and generally exceptional dancefloor music. It’s a “collection of low-tech tracks made with cheap little drum machines and rejected old synths,” says Geist. He composed and mixed the tracks with the intention to make them sound more ‘mega’ than they actually are. Get your fill of the EPs opening track “Darkstar” above. It’s a great one.

“Megaprojects One”, the first in a new series of EPs, is out now via Environ. Buy it here.

Metro Area’s Morgan Geist is back with a new project called The Galleria, featuring Canadian R&B singer Jessy Lanza, whose debut album “Pull My Hair Back” on Hyperdub was one of our favorite records of 2013. The debut release, “Calling Card/Mezzanine”, is said to “ripples with echoes of the indigenous music of long-dead suburban New Jersey shopping malls and NYC radio stations: bombastic freestyle, club dubs, razor-edits and bubblegum-pop R&B.” It features two original tracks with Jessy Lanza on vocal duties, each backed by a dancefloor-friendly ’80s-style dub version. Colour us excited!

The Galleria’s “Calling Card/Mezzanine” EP is out now digitally via Morgan Geist’s Environ Records imprint. Get it here.

Just a few days ago, Andy Butler’s New York disco-house collective Hercules & Love Affair dropped their third album “The Feast of the Broken Heart” (available to stream in full here), and it was definitely worth the wait. Now, Hercules & Love Affair’s recent single “I Try To Talk To You”, a gorgeous, piano-led house tune featuring vocals from American singer-songwriter John Grant, gets the remix treatment it deserves at the hands of Metro Area’s Morgan Geist. Of course, we’d expect nothing less from this iconic producer.

In Andy Butler’s own words: “I needed a producer who could confidently handle both the gravity of the song, a big vocal and still bring the boogie. The mix has the persistent feel of a factory while still championing the elegance John’s vocals and piano brought to the collaboration.” This remix will appear on “I Try to Talk to You” Remixes EP, which will drop on June 9th via Moshi Moshi. Just in case you missed it, check out the David Wilson-directed video for “I Try To Talk To You” here.
