London-based producer Marcus Marr has returned with his new track “Familiar Five”, the title track from his upcoming EP on DFA Records. With his new four-track EP, Marcus Marr has taken his darkest and most thrillingly outré turn yet. Recorded through the long dark nights in the splendid isolation of his Brixton studio, “Familiar Five” is a tale of bizarre transformation that points up the fragile boundaries between dreams and reality. The title track feels like an outsider anthem. “It’s about being a freak and accepting it – being happy to be a freak,” says Marr. It’s so damn good. Blast it above.

The “Familiar Five” EP, which also features the previous singles “High Times” and “Rocketship”, drops on February 2 on DFA. Pre-order it here.

He’s back! London-based producer and DJ Marcus Marr just dropped his great new track “High Times” on DFA, which marks his first release since last year’s much-played “Rocketship”. A crowd favorite from Marr’s live set, “High Times” channels the electric guitar stylings of Nile Rodgers circa 1979, and makes good use of the producer’s trademark whizzing synths as well as additional vocals from Nandi Bhebhe. “Once I had come up with the guitar parts I then added all the other instruments one by one ‘til I had an arrangement I liked,” Marr says. “I’ve been playing it out for ages and it always works.” Blast it above.

The single “High Times” arrives on October 27th on DFA.

The last time we heard from London-based producer Marcus Marr was late last year when he dropped his excellent collaborative “Work” EP with Melbourne electro-soul crooner Chet Faker. Now, he returns to DFA Records with his killer new single “Rocketship”, a seven-minute surefire dancefloor groover, with deep vocals and a good amount of funky guitar licks. Of course, we’d expect nothing less from Marcus Marr.

“‘Rocketship’ is a tune I’ve been playing out for a good while now. It always gets a good reaction. It started life as a guitar and bass groove that I put together in my studio here in London. Then it received the wisdom of Damian Drammaticus (the deep voice). Then I laid on the other elements,” he says.

The single “Rocketship” is out now on DFA. Get it here.

Ready for some hot sauce? Londoner Marcus Marr has returned with a great new “Brown Sauce” b/w “Peacemakers” 12”, which marks his first record on DFA since his killer tune “The Music”, one of our favorite dance tracks of 2012. The record’s a-side cut “Brown Sauce” sees the adventurous producer, DJ, songwriter and instrumentalist delivering a surefire dancefloor filler with some serious dark vibes. On the flip-side there’s “Peacemakers”, an incredibly groovy, funky jam full of Fender Jazz bass guitar licks.

“Depending on the vibe of the night, if you come and see me DJ it’s likely you’re going to hear some futuristic music, as well as some disco, house and so on. I want people to be warned about that so I made “Brown Sauce”. I’ve been playing it all over the place for a good while now and it never lets me down,” he says. Give both tracks a few spins, and keep en eye out for Marcus Marr’s debut album, which is expected to see a release later this year via DFA.

The “Brown Sauce” b/w “Peacemakers” single is out now on DFA. Buy it here.

What a tune! It’s certainly been quite some time since we last heard from Brixton’s producer and DJ Marcus Marr, who also runs his own label New Finger, but he’s back with this incredible funky jam, “The Music”, which was recently released on DFA. It clocks in at almost nine minutes, but we still can’t get enough of it.

The instrumental version of “The Music” can also be heard in the new London-set crime thriller remake of Nicolas Winding Refn’s 1996 cult film “Pusher”, directed by Luis Prieto.

“The Music”, backed by a new, DJ-friendly version of “Pleasure Moon”, is out now on DFA. Get it here.
