The Rapture’s Luke Jenner has shared a new single called “If There Is a God”, taken from his forthcoming new solo album, entitled “1”, set to drop in July. The superb new track comes with a beautiful papercraft stop-motion video, which was directed by Tara Relax. Speaking about the track, Luke Jenner says: “‘If There is a God’ is part of this meditation on life and death, love and ideas, about who we are as people and beings. It’s a little Beach Boys and a little Krautrock and a little bit whimsy. Who the fuck knows what happens next in this life?”

Luke Jenner’s “1” LP will finally drop on July 24th via Manono Records. Pre-order it here.

The Rapture’s Luke Jenner is back with his new solo album, entitled “1”. Before it drops in May, we’re treated to the record’s first single, a wonderful track called “You’re Not Alone”, an invitation to more. The single arrives with a video with illustration by Tara Relax.

The 10-track record is commanding yet generous in its vision. It follows Jenner’s personal history – from the trauma of child abuse in his family to the happiness he seeks in his own family now and in the community of survivors that sustain him – within the context of rock history and the music that sustained him there as well. In Luke Jenner’s own words: “I made this record to bring together my family, friends and music into one thing. Not to hurt anyone, not to call anyone out. But simply to have a conversation with those who want to have a conversation with me.”

It’s certainly been quite some time since we last heard from Body Music, the collaborative project between The Rapture’s Vito Roccoforte, who also operates as one half of Vito & Druzzi and Boston’s producer and multi-instrumentalist Bosq. Having already wowed us with their finely crared debut EP “Just One” of all-original deep disco flavor, which was released last year on Brooklyn’s Razor-N-Tape, now they’re back with a dancefloor-friendly dubby re-edit of Spandau Ballet’s classic “Chant No 1 (Don’t Need This Pressure On)”, which you can download for absolutely free exclusively on La.Ga.Sta. In their capable hands, the oringal track is transformed into an stompy 80s disco dancefloor jam for the summer. Grab a free download of the re-edit below, and make sure to check out Body Music’s great “Influences” mix, which also features a new unreleased original tune. Play it loud, and get into the groove.

[Premiere] Vito & Druzzi: “Battle Ax”

Brooklyn-based musical/production/DJ duo Vito & Druzzi, aka Vito Roccoforte and Gabriel “Druzzi” Andruzzi, best known for being the drummer and multi-instrumentalist of DFA’s The Rapture, are no newcomers to the world of rhythm and harmony. After dropping a slew of top-notch releases and sublime edits, they’re back with a new EP, entitled “Boom Boom Battle Ax”, which marks the pair’s first record for the newly minted Brooklyn label Earth2Ether. The record features three tracks of maniacally mechanical techno-disco-funk that circumvent belief and challenge expectations.

To make these slightly twisted, back to basics dance floor vibrations, the assiduous duo dug their lonely 808 drum-machine out of the closet and gave it a big hug. The result is an EP made with love, the inspiration that comes with reconnection and an optimistic atavism unburdened by outdated morals. Today, we’re psyched to premiere our favorite track from the EP, “Battle Ax”, a great tune that finds Vito & Druzzi in fine form. Blast it above, exclusively on La.Ga.Sta.

The “Boom Boom Battle Ax” EP drops on October 18th. Pre-order it here.

The Hundred In The Hands, the New York duo of Eleanore Everdell and Jason Friedman, have a new album on the way, called “Love In The Black Stack”, with a bunch of tracks produced by Brooklyn’s house duo Vito & Druzzi, aka The Rapture’s Vito Roccoforte and Gabriel Andruzzi. The 11-track record, described as a “swoony late-night soundtrack to the catastrophic present”, marks the pair’s first release since 2012’s LP “Red Night” on Warp. Our first taste comes in the form of the record’s closing track “I Follow”, a moody, slow burning affair. Give it a spin above, and drive slow.

The Hundred In The Hands’ third album “Love In The Black Stack” arrives on June 16th via their own label New Ancestors. You can pre-order your copy here.

Brooklyn-based house duo Vito & Druzzi, aka The Rapture’s Vito Roccoforte and Gabriel “Druzzi” Andruzzi, continues to churn out quality edits, this time with this excellent rework of “Poppies” by the legendary folk singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie. The original track is taken from her sixth album “Illuminations”, which was released in 1969. It’s yours for free.

Speaking about the “Poppies” edit, Vito says: “I vividly remember buying the Buffy Saint-Marie album ‘Illuminations’ at a record store called Jerry’s in Pittsburgh. Jerry’s was a regular stop on tour where we’d usually spend a day buying and looking at records. When I found Illuminations I didn’t know anything about the album or much about Buffy Sainte-Marie but I liked the artwork and thought it looked like an interesting album so I bought it. It turned out to be a total gem. Poppies was always a standout track on the album, the vocal on Poppies is really beautiful and works seamlessly with the backing track. I’ve been meaning to rework it for years.”

Do yourself a favor a grab the “Don’t Go Hugh” rework for free in all its wav glory. Enjoy the ride!

“When I moved to NYC in the summer of 1999 one of the first shows I saw was Hugh Masekela in Central Park. I wasn’t very familiar with his music (he was playing with Carl Craig who I had come to see) but after his concert I left a life long fan. Watching him live was incredibly inspiring. Man! Could he play a mean cowbell!” – Vito

It’s one of the many collaborative tracks on the record which also features guest appearances from The Emperor Machine, Teddy Stuart, one half of A/Jus/Ted, Mark Verbos, and his Runaway partner-in-crime Marcos Cabral.
