Birmingham-based maestro Mark E is back with a new EP, entitled “Outdoor Pursuits”, a killer four-tracker which marks his debut release on Studio Barnhus. The Outdoor “Pursuits” EP contains four perfect exemplars of the Brummie genius’ warm, reduced signature sound – cherry-picked from a fresh batch of produce by an awestruck Studio Barnhus A&R team. One of our favorite cuts from the record “Find A Way”, an eight-munite epic ride. Play it loud!

After last year’s “Product Of Industry”, his second album for Ghostly’s Spectral Sound label, and a handful of quality disco edits on his ongoing “E-Versions” series for his own label Merc, Birmingham-based DJ/producer Mark E returns to our ears with yet another great release. His first offering for Lovefingers’ ESP Institute imprint, the two-track “Emergency” 12″, finds him operating in top form. Here, we have the the record’s a-side cut, “Laurentian Abyss”, that clocks in at almost 10 minutes. What a ride!

The track “Laurentian Abyss” conjures “narrative images from the depths of a man’s soul, trudging through an array of rhythmic pulse, percussion and arpeggiation that resembles the inner workings of a grandfather clock, based on a disorienting 5/4 timing yet culminating in a singular stroke,” according to the label.

The “Emergency” EP is out now on vinyl and digital via ESP Institute. Pick up your 12” here.

Mark E: “The Shoe”

For this Saturday’s “An Edit To Remember” series we choose to share with you one of our favorite edits of 2014, “The Shoe” from the mighty Birmingham-based producer/DJ Mark E. It’s a solid re-edit of Jean Carn’s 1979 classic “Was That All It Was” that clocks in at ten-plus minutes, but we can’t get enough of it. “The Shoe” is taken from Mark E’s third installment of his ongoing “E-Versions” series. Los Angeles-based producer Jeffrey “Jerusalem” Brodsky, better known as the touring drummer/percussionist of YACHT and RAC, is ready to drop his new four-track EP called “I’ll Be Strong” for Eug’s label, Public Release. Here, we have the epic video for the record’s title track, a great late-night house tune, that visualizes nature’s struggle through intense weather.

Directed by Universal Everything, the video is “all about motivation, struggling and surviving. A relentless storm of pop-digital weather bombards a group of animals, who are relentlessly dashing towards their goal – a distant volcano emitting the hypnotic chant of the song. The story is represented only through the visualisation of the invisible wind, revealing the animals with a graphic intensity.”

The “I’ll Be Strong” EP, which comes complete with three fine remixes by the likes of Mark E, Richard Sen, and Italians Do it Better’s Mike Simonetti, will drop on June 2 via San Francisco-based label Public Release. You can pre-order your 12” here.

Birmingham-based house producer Mark E has returned with his new single “Being Hiding”, a solid house jam with lush piano-led grooves, warm synth melodies, and soulful vocals from Phenomenal Handclap Band’s Bing Ji Ling. This one will get some serious rotations on our car stereo this spring.

“Being Hiding” is the second single from Mark E’s forthcoming new album “Product Of Industry”, which was mostly produced with analogue gear. Described by Mark E himself as “grinding, continuous, heavy, relentless,” the album follows over two years after his “Stone Breaker” LP.

“Product Of Industry” will drop via Ghostly’s Spectral Sound imprint on April 28th.

He has already made a great remix of Massimiliano Pagliara’s “Keep On Dreaming” for the label back in 2010, and now the West-Midlands DJ and producer returns with his excellent debut release, entitled “We Could Love”, on Sean Brosnan’s label. “We Could Love”, featuring the legendary Robert Owens on vocals, is a deep, seductive house track that could easily make you fall in love.
