White Elephant is a collaboration between Crazy P’s Jim Baron, aka Ron Basejam, and Chris Todd with Ben Smith (of Smith & Mudd fame). Their first track, the gorgeous “Sir John” of pure Balearic bliss, appeared on a limited 10” on Redux imprint all the way back in 2011 and became a definite fixture in sunset sessions. Five years after the release of “Sir John”, White Elephant return in fine form with their their first EP, entitled “The Old Euphonium”, and it’s a great one. This finely crafted four-tracker delivers the kind of sounds you might expect to hear them spinning: melody-driven, slow-burning Krautrock/Balearic jams. Our favorite cut from the EP is “Tears”, a beauty of a tune filled with blissful guitar licks and melancholic piano chords. Give it a spin above, and ride with us.
“The Old Euphonium” EP is out now on White Elephant’s very own Woman Records.

The next release on Bristol’s Futureboogie Recordings comes from Ron & Neil, the new super collaboration between old buddies Crazy P’s James Baron, aka Ron Basejam, and re-edit wizard Neil Diablo. Entitled “Perdre Son Éclat”, the record marks the pair’s first release with three well-crafted original tracks of funky filtered disco-influenced house. The EPs title track is a brilliant slice of atmospheric synth dance, resplendent with swirling riffs, stammering bass and sultry vocals. Blast it above.
The “Perdre Son Éclat” EP, which also features a remix by Man Power, is out now digtially via Futureboogie. Get it here.

St. Petersburg-based electronic band D-Pulse recently dropped a fine remix collection for some standout tracks from their trippy album “Consequenced”, released late last year via their very own imprint Vernal Records. Our pick from that release is the rework of “Seen Today” by Crazy P’s James Baron, aka Ron Basejam, who turns the original cut into a gorgeous disco gem. The “Consequenced” Remixes, which also features reworks by the likes of Harvey Sutherland, Sportloto, Atjazz, and CableToy, is out now digitally via Vernal.

Get yourself a heavy dose of summer vibes with Boston’s own Bosq new “Tumbalá” EP on Soul Clap Records. After dropping a slew of quality edits and original throughout the past several years and working with DJ Kon and the Whiskey Barons, the prolific producer and multi-instrumentalist continues to carry the afro-latin funk torch into the future by delivering a collection of four well-crafted tunes.
Featuring the likes of Puerto-Rican vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Hector “Tempo” Alomar, Crazy P’s Danielle Moore, Serge Gamesbourg, and Evan Laflamme, the Tumbalá” EP is filled with Latin-flavored pianos, Afrobeat horns, Brazilian percussions, and tropical-tinged disco vibes. It’s a superb record and one to keep you groovin’ till autumn. We’d expect nothing less from afro-latin aficionado Bosq. One of our favorite cuts is the Danielle Moore-featuring “Because You”. Give it a spin above.

The next release on House of Disco Records comes from Crazy P’s James Baron, aka Ron Basejam, with a new EP called “Tales From The Night”, which marks his first solo release of original material in four years. Consisting of five tracks, the record finds Ron Basejam in such fine form, delivering just the kind of groove-filled disco we’d expect from this mighty producer. Our favorite cut from the release is “When I Hear That Music”, a solid tune with delicate keys, bossy horns and soulful vocal samples. The EP also features a guest vocal from his bandmate in Crazy P, Danielle Moore. Preview the whole thing above.
