Mt. Si, the LA-based collaborative project from Sarah Chernoff of Superhumanoids, Jesse Kivel of Kisses, and Classixx’s Michael David, first caught our ear last year with their soothing tracks “Oh” and “True”. They’re now gearing up for the release of their debut EP on Cascine. Entitled “Limits”, the record consists of four well-crafted tracks, dazzling examples of electronic pop at its most fluid and stylish. Take a slow ride with Mt. Si’s beautiful new single “Either / Or”.

“We’re all friends who originally got together to work on songs for the first Classixx album,” explained Jesse Kivel. “Mike and I wrote a track that I was supposed to sing, but Sarah came in and stole the show. From there we realized that we had good chemistry as a trio, writing and producing in a subtle, refined way. We’ve been slowly chipping away at songs for almost four years now. A relaxed and loose approach to the project, never settling until we have a great track has been one of the guiding principles.”

The “Limits” EP drops on February 5th on Cascine. Pre-order it here.

Back in August, Classixx, the Los Angeles-based duo of Tyler Blake and Michael David, dropped an instrumental version of their delicious new single “Whatever I Want”, their first original material in over two years. And now, they’ve teamed up with rapper T-Pain to bring us a vocal version of the track, which also features the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir. In their own words: “We’ve been T-Pain fans for a long time, but vividly remember hearing the instrumental of “Can’t Believe It” and feeling kindred in some way. We’re still reeling from the fact that this song came together, it was really fun to make it!”

Classixx are hard at work on their forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2013’s brilliant debut album “Hanging Gardens”, which is expected to arrive next year. We can’t wait.

The single “Whatever I Want” is out now digitally via Innovative Leisure. Get it here.

Los Angeles producer Michael David, one half of our beloved Classixx, is now flying solo under his new moniker Studio Paradiso. His debut release, a two-track 12” called “Ohana”, will drop next month on the newly formed label Distant Works, which LA’s producer/DJ Daniel.T. (of Cosmic Kids fame) co-runs alongside friend and frequent collaborator Cooper Saver. The EPs title track, a finely crafted smooth jam, finds him in such fine form. What a great start for the label.

In Studio Paradiso’s own words: “These are two instrumental songs that I’ve been meaning to finish for a little while. ‘Ohana’ is based on a lot of songs that I grew up listening to on 94.7 The Wave, LA’s smooth jazz station. ‘Samurai Dreams’ was a soft-porn that David Cronenberg directed as an insert for Videodrome. I thought it would be fun to score it, and so the song came together as an exercise.

Studio Paradiso’s “Ohana” 12” will drop on August 24th on Distant Works. Pre-order it here.
