#YouAreNotAlone: With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite album or a track for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. An album a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.

Today our beloved Tyler Blake, well known for his work as one half of LA duo Classixx, shares with us one of his favourite records to listen during the isolation, Talking Heads’ classic “Fear Of Music” LP.

“This album came out in 1979, six years before I was born. Fortunately, Talking Heads was the band my dad listened to the most throughout the 80’s, so I got the privelage of being exposed to ‘Fear Of Music’ at a young age. One of my earliest memories is flailing around my parents’ living room to this record. Only later in life did I pay attention to the lyrics. One of my favorite TH songs, ‘Life During Wartime’ is on this LP, and the chorus of that song feels appropriate to the times we are living in now. David Byrne sings, ‘This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no fooling around’. The fact that it’s nearly impossible not to get up and dance to the beat as he makes that proclamation has always brought a smile to my face. I think I’ll give it a spin now for another one.”

This one sounds like a match made in heaven. Los Angeles duo Classixx, composed of Tyler Blake & Michael David, have teamed up with German singer/producer Marius Lauber, aka Roosevelt, to deliver an infectiously feel-good, upbeat track, “One More Song”, urging us to beat the melancholy and reminding us to ‘hold on’. Continuing to show a knack for choosing kindred-spirit collaborators, the pair’s lush tropical house sounds provide the perfect backdrop for Roosevelt’s whimsical croon, a welcome antidote to these uncertain times. Excellent stuff from Classixx and Roosevelt, as always!

In Classixx’s own words: We’ve been big fans of Roosevelt for years now and I think we align on the importance of feel-good dance music as a form of expression. The song started the way a lot of our collaborations do, which is entirely different than the final production. We sent an original demo that Roosevelt wrote to and then we built a brand new framework around his vocal. The drums are pretty compressed and there is a live bass pass inspired by Louis Johnson. Most of the keys were done on our Juno 106.”

LA duo Classixx are back with a superb rework of “Silly Loves Songs” by Wings, just in time for Valentine’s Day! In their own words: “We made a rework of Wings’ “Silly Love Songs” from an early piano demo of the song that our friend Chris Byrne sent me. It felt like a good idea to put it up around Valentine’s Day! Paul wrote the song as a response to critics claiming that he predominately wrote “silly love songs” and “sentimental slush” with “disco overtones”. The song was a perfect comeback and Paul indulged in making music that he loved adding the refrain “What’s Wrong With That?.

Michael David: “Rain II”

Over the last decade and a half, Michael David, popularly known for his work as one half of LA duo Classixx, has made many kinds of records, but always with other people. In 2015, he made something of his own for the first time ― a bleak, post-apocalyptic single released under the name Studio Paradiso. Now, Michael David steps out on his own with his first first solo release, entitled “There In Spirit / Rain II”, on Cascine.

Recorded late at night on a Tascam multitrack tape recorder, the record finds Michael David bending and melding organic instrumentation into something layered and uncanny: guitars chop and glimmer, beats cascade and push forward, but always with a sense of gentle resignation. This is the sound of a mind searching through time, exhuming memories and emotions ― good and bad ―to try and know, recapture, reclaim, and most importantly, feel. Our first taste comes in the form of “Rain II”, a finely-crafted tune. Give it a spin above, and drive slow.

The “There In Spirit / Rain II” 12” drops on November 22. Pre-order it here.

Los Angeles duo Classixx, composed of Tyler Blake & Michael David, make a triumphant return with their infectious new single “Love Me No More”. The energizing house vibe heard in “Love Me No More” is a tribute to the tradition of French Touch and a dedication to the legendary producer Philippe Zdar (Cassius), who was a hero to Classixx.

In their own words: “Love Me No More” is our tribute to the tradition of French Touch and the dance music producers who shaped us as young musicians. Philippe Zdar’s (Cassius) work was a guiding force for the track, he was a hero of ours. We played around with the form a bit – the bass part is a full live pass and so is most of the synth work. We’ve been sneaking the song into our DJ sets lately and it’s been a lot of fun to see the response.
