We first caught wind of Elliott Williams’ new project Y.O.U (Your Own Universe) earlier this year, when rising Manchester-based artist dropped his debut single “Heavy Crown”, a perfect slice of ’80s synth-pop, produced by none other than Joakim. Now, he’s back with his second single “Volvic”, and it’s just one more good reason to get excited about Y.O.U’s forthcoming album, which is expected to see a release later this year via Play It Again Sam.

We’ve already heard Joakim’s superb cover of Neil Young’s 1974 track “On The Beach”, the first taste from his forthcoming new album “Tropics Of Love”, and now the track has been given a blissed-out makeover by Montreal electronic producer Mike Silver, aka CFCF. On his splendid remix, CFCF transforms “On The Beach” into something more breezy and warm. We’ll surely be craving for more of these sun-soaked Balearic vibes in the coming months. Give it a spin above, and drive slow.

The “On The Beach” EP, which also features remixes by Principles Of Geometry, and Joakim himself, is out now via Because Music. Get it here. The “Tropics Of Love” LP will drop on May 26th.

Great news! French maestro and Tigersushi boss Joakim has a new album on the way and we couldn’t be more excited. Entitled “Tropics Of Love”, the new record comes nearly three years after his last album “Nothing Gold” dropped, and will be released on May 26th via Because Music. Before then, you can now download the album’s first single, “On The Beach”, a superb cover of one of his favorite songs by Neil Young.

In his own words: “When i first heard that song, i felt like i could have or should have written it. The lyrics are so dark and beautiful, they relate to the slightly autistic part that a lot of artists are hiding and the artist condition in general. But I’m no Neil Young when it comes to song-writing, so instead of trying to write something as good, I decided to make a cover, twist that blues tune and turn it into something completely different and (much to my surprise) even darker, to the point where most people don’t even recognize the original song.”

The “On The Beach” EP will drop on March 31 via Because Music, backed with remixes by CFCF, Principles Of Geometry, and Joakim himself.
