After a long wait, London’s trio Is Tropical have finally announced the release of their upcoming second album “I’m Leaving” (that’s the cover art above), which was produced by Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode). The follow-up to the group’s great 2011 debut “Native To” sees the band “dig deeper into themes and sounds of early-’70s psychedelia and British pop” and it will be released on May 20th via Kitsune/Co-operative Music. As a teaser for what’s to come, you can now stream the closing song from the album, “Yellow Teeth”, above. That’s a pretty damn good reason to be excited!

London’s Is Tropical have made an EP with four electronic tracks to show their love for Latin America. Today we are delighted to premiere one of the tracks from that EP, called “Maria’s Colombia”, a great atmospheric electro tune with some heavy synth stabs and bright, melodic guitar riffs. This EP also includes the track “Venezuela”, featuring Get People (already posted here), which made its way on Kitsuné’s new compilation, “Kitsuné Maison 14 – The Tenth Anniversary Issue”.
As Simon Milner says: “We’ve made four electronic tracks to show our love for Latin America to put out whilst in the studio making more of a guitar based second LP. There’s “Venezuela”, “Oi Peru”, “Mexico” and this one “Maria’s Colombia”. “Maria’s Colombia” is for our friend that we lived with in London squats for many years before she got deported. It’s mixed and edited by Owen Pratt, who runs the studio we’re in, teching the album and does our live sound. He’s one sexy tall glass of water”.
The band is currently recording the follow-up to 2011′s debut album “Native To” in London with producer Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode, Crystal Fighters). Until then, download “Maria’s Colombia” for free below, exclusively on La.Ga.Sta.

La.Ga.Sta. offered its services to many weary travellers once more this year. By “following rivers” they drove “through the green” and found themselves in “English Riviera” only to come back again to our station for another refill.
Taking a Friday drive down this year’s memory lane, we think back on our numerous stops including among others:
Our after-hours, absolutely wicked dj set in the VIP room of Melt! Festival. We might have missed Cut Copy’s performance but we certainly had a blast. Shout out to T.E.E.D., Azari & III, Metronomy, Siriusmo, and Planningtorock for their stunning gigs.
The 15-track La.Ga.Sta. Summer Compilation 2011 with lots of exclusives released in August and downloaded by more than 15.000 vroomers in less than a month. Thank you guys!
Dancing ‘till we dropped with the Can You Relate? team at their super cool parties in Thessaloniki together with The Magician, Shit Robot, Villa, Moullinex, In Flagranti, Acid Washed, and Stopmakingme.
A huge thanks coming out to all of you who filled up our inbox with tons of tunes and mixes, wish we could post them all. Keep them coming.
It’s always such a great pleasure sharing sounds, words and feelings with all the people we love. We don’t really like making lists since we always forget to include everything we loved through the year. But, by popular demand, our pit stop crew tried to bring the Best of 2011 lists (albums, tracks, remixes, EP’s, video) based on what we played most on our car stereo. It was certainly an amazing year with great releases that gave this station the “gas” it needed to carry on driving. Check out our lists below in no particular order. We don’t have winners or losers in this race only drivers that finally make it to the finish line.
This is the 2011 sound of La.Ga.Sta. Vroooommm!

Throughout 2011 we have been offering you lots of free music. Here is La.Ga.Sta.’s most downloaded tracks of the year. It’s no surprise that Magician’s remix of Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” is top of the list. A huge remix that you can still hear coming out loud from the car stereos. There are some great tunes in there as well, from Rapture, M83 and Washed Out to Mylo, Discodeine, and Poolside. Not to mention Villa’s take on Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” – another exclusive track from La.Ga.Sta. This is your Top 20 chart. Fill it up (one more time) and enjoy the ride.
