Chilly Gonzales’ amazing new single ‘I Am Europe’ is out today on Phantasy Sound. It’s taken from his forthcoming ‘Ivory Tower’ album, out on August 30th, with Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize on production duties. In the meantime, Erol Alkan has reworked ‘Never Stop’ for the dance floor and it’s coming out on September 6th. Can’t wait!

Αυτή η Mix O’Clock (εδώ και 3 βδομάδες περιμένει να..ανέβει) έχει, σχεδόν, τα πάντα: Ένα piano-pella που δεν λέει να σταματήσει (παίζει ακόμη και όταν κοιμάσαι), ένα motel κάπου στο Camino Del Sol (έχεις ξαναπάει, αλλά δεν το θυμάσαι), άλογα που τραγουδάνε acapella (βρε μανία με το pella), ληγμένα μανιτάρια (με τέτοια κρίση, θα τα φας!), μια βόμβα καμουφλαρισμένη σε μπουκάλι λεμονάδας (3…2…1…την άνοιξες; Σόρι, του λέιτ), μπουφέ από 80s synths (μασουλάς και παίζεις πλήκτρα), όπλα που πετάνε σφαίρες από αστερόσκονη (please, kill me) και ένα κατακόκκινο αμάξι που το οδηγάει ένα…πούμα στην Route 66 (μόλις στουκάρε με τον σκαραβαία). The stunning Chilly Gonzales piano rework of Erol Alkan and Boys Noize “Waves” is finally released as a digital download. The piano rework comes backed with a spoken word episode from Chilly explaining how one would translate a club ‘banger’ into something your grandfather could get with. The legendary entertainist has been a long time friend of Alkan’s and has currently been putting the finishing touches on his Boys Noize produced next album, set for release next year.

Το πιάνο που μιλάει από μόνο του. Πριν προβάλεις να πατήσεις πλήκτρο. Τα δάχτυλα που τρέχουν και σε κάνουν λιώμα. Σαν ferrari με σπασμένα φρένα. Ο μουσικός που μπορεί να παίζει Erik Satie και να σε κάνει να χορεύεις techno. Χωρίς να πάρεις ναρκωτικά. Ο αυτοδίδακτος Καναδός Chilly Gonzales (μιλάμε για μεγάλη φιγούρα) είναι ένας και μοναδικός. Όταν βαριέται (που βαριέται συχνά τελευταία) την ηλεκτρονική μουσική, απομονώνεται σ’ ένα δωμάτιο και παίζει solo piano. Όταν δεν συνεργάζεται με την αγαπημένη του Feist, την Peaches ή τον Mocky, μπορεί να παίξει 200 κομμάτια σε 27 ώρες, 3 λεπτά και 44 δευτερόλεπτα (ποτέ!!!) και να κάνει μια χαψιά το ρεκόρ Guinness (τα κατάφερε τον περασμένο Μάϊο). Όταν δεν περιοδεύει ανά τον κόσμο, συνεχίζει τις ηχογραφήσεις το νέο του album σε παραγωγή των Boys Noize που θα κυκλοφορήσει το 2010. Ο Gonzales μου θυμίζει τον δάσκαλο πιάνου που είχα στο γυμνάσιο. Με την διαφορά ότι έβγαζε καντίλες όταν άκουγε electronica, είχε γραμμένο κανονικά το Guinness και έβαζε περισσότερη μπριγιαντίνη στα μαλλιά – πόσες φορές τον είχα πάνω από το κεφάλι μου και αντί να παίξω Μπαχ, κολλούσαν τα δάχτυλα και φώναζα μπλιαχ! Ακόμη περιμένει να τελειώσω την αρμονία…
Το νέο έξοχο rework του Gonzales στο κομμάτι “Synthétiseur” των Γάλλων Housse De Racket (που θα μπορούσε να είναι και παιδιά του) είναι για την πάρτη σου μαζί με μερικά παλιότερα. Καιρός να ξεκινήσεις μαθήματα πιάνου ή καλύτερα πάτα play…
