YACHT, the Portland-via-Los-Angeles electro-pop duo of Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans, have shared this fine remix of their track “Ringtone” by Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard. In his own words: “I love YACHT; I think their music and their live performances are mesmerising, and they are just plain good people. For this release, I wanted to make an old-fashioned Chicago banger as if the Eurythmics were remixed by DJ Pierre.” The track “Ringtone” appears on the pair’s new album “I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler”, out now via Downtown Records. YACHT’s new album “I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler” come out last week, and today the Portland-via-Los-Angeles electro-pop duo of Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans have shared this cool new video for the glorious disco title track. In their own words: “This is a science fiction video that uses only existing technologies—VR, drones, self-balancing scooters (“hoverboards”), telepresence robots, selfie sticks, Soylent, and vape pens. All of these things have variably been presented as symbols of our futuristic world, but up close, they just feel straight-up comical.”

Directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko.

The “I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler” LP, their first album in four years since the release of “Shangri-La” on DFA in 2011, is out now via Downtown Records. Get it here.

Earlier this week, Portland’s electro-pop duo YACHT, who now calls Los Angeles home, dropped their addictive new single “L.A. Plays Itself”, a whole new kind of traffic jam. The song’s accompanying video was directly controlled by traffic in LA. It was only viewable for a limited time when Uber surge pricing was on in the city. You can now watch it from anywhere in the world. Directed by YACHT and David Lawrence, the clip for “L.A. Plays Itself” is an IRL lyric video, using 163 location signs—ubiquitous in Los Angeles—to display the song’s lyrics all over the city. Enjoy the ride.

The track, which was inspired by Thom Andersen’s 2003 documentary “Los Angeles Plays Itself”, is taken from the pair’s forthcoming new album “I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler”, which drops on October 16 via Downtown Records. Pre-order it here.

Portland-via-Los-Angeles electro-poppers YACHT, comprised of Jona Bechtolt & Claire L. Evans, have a new album on the way. Entiled “I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler”, the new record marks the pair’s first album in four years since the release of “Shangri-La” on DFA in 2011. To whet our appetites, YACHT have shared the album’s title track, a glorious disco tune that’s incredibly catchy. You can watch the 4K lyric video for new single above.

Speaking about the new single, Claire L. Evans says: “It’s the most cynical song on the album by a mile and by cynical I mean sad…There’s nothing more powerful than a pop song in terms of conveying a message succinctly and in a memorable way. If you can get a hook into someone’s brain, you have them forever. It doesn’t even matter if people don’t immediately understand what the song’s about.”

YACHT’s fifth album “I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler” will drop on October 16 via Downtown Records. Pre-order it here.

After dropping the single “Where Does This Disco?” just a few weeks ago, Los Angeles-based synth-dance duo YACHT are already back with “Works Like Magic”, another new track from their forthcoming EP on their brand-new label Downtown Records. “Works Like Magic”, the first song they’ve written with the band’s live members Jeffrey Brodsky and Rob “Bobby Birdman” Kieswetter, is an infectious funky tune that stays true to its name. It also featured in a Google Chromecast ad.

In YACHT’s own words: “The science fiction writer J.G. Ballard once said that “sex times technology equals the future.” We argue that sex and technology coexist in our present: we touch, we push buttons, we seek intimacy in screens. When we connect, it works like magic.” The “Where Does This Disco?” EP will arrive on November 11th via Downtown Records. Buy a copy of “Works Like Magic” here.

It’s certainly been quite some time since we last heard from Los Angeles-based synth-dance duo YACHT, comprised of Jona Bechtolt & Claire L. Evans, but now they’re back in action with their delicious new single “Where Does This Disco?”, the first taste from their forthcoming EP of the same name, which marks the pair’s first release on their brand-new label, Downtown Records. According to YACHT: “Where Does This Disco? is about love and compact discs. They’re both on the edge of becoming obsolete, and they both get scratched if you play them too hard. They’re both mirrors, but one is still the best medium we have for connecting with each other.”

The “Where Does This Disco?” single, which comes backed with a remix by Jerome LOL, who also operates as one half of DJ Dodger Stadium, is out now digitally via Downtown Records. Get it here.
