Luces is the house collaboration project of producer, DJ and musician Caleb Cornett, aka Amtrac, along with drummer, songwriter and producer/remixer Felix Bloxsom, otherwise known as Plastic Plates. Based in Los Angeles, the duo first caught our attention last year with his stellar debut EP “Habitual Ritual” on NYC’s Let’s Play House with a remix by Autofac, an alias of The Juan MacLean and Shit Robot, stalwarts of the influential dance-punk label DFA records. Soon after, the pair dropped the EPs “Soak” via Amtrac’s label Openers and “Revelation” EP on Needwant.

Now, Luces are back in action with their new EP, a three-tracker called “Fantasma” of pure house goodness, which dropped today via Openers. We’re delighted to premiere our favorite cut from the record, “Mr. Phil”, a finely crafted house groover that finds Luces in fine form. Keep an eye on these tastemakers as they continue to innovate and push the limits of house.

The “Fantasma” EP is out now. Get it here.

Say hello to Luces, a new collaborative project between Felix Bloxsom, otherwise known as Plastic Plates, and Caleb Cornett, aka Amtrac. The pair’s debut EP, a four-tracker called “Habitual Ritual”, will drop on NYC’s Let’s Play House in June, and consists of three original tunes along with a dubby remix by Autofac, a production duo comprised of DFA veterans Juan MacLean and Shit Robot. Our first taste comes in the form of the EPs title track and it’s a total winner. Clocking in at nearly six minutes, “Habitual Ritual” is a “big-room epic with an undercurrent of classic deep house and disco vibes running through it.”

The “Habitual Ritual” EP will arrive on June 2 on vinyl, while the digital version will come out on June 16 via Let’s Play House. Pre-order it here.

After a handful of self-released tracks, Berlin-based Australian singer-songwriter Benjamin Jacob Yates, or simply Yates, recently joined the Sweat It Out family for the release of his debut EP entitled “Mercury”, set to arrive early next year. The EP’s first single “Virtue”, a guitar-driven pop tune with his soothing velvety vocals, gets the remix treatment from labelmate and fellow Australian producer Plastic Plates. In his hands, the track is transformed into a glorious, floating piece of tropical-tinged house. Give it a spin above.

The single “Virtue” drops on December 4th via Sweat It Out. Keep an eye out for Yates’ debut “Mercury” EP, the first chapter of his musical series, which will land in February.
