In his eight years as an artist/producer — an output he self-describes as “file under 12”, intentionally laconic — Berlin-by-way-of-Melbourne Bell Towers has wriggled on various shades of house, 80s- influence pop and sample disco. No two of his 8 singles sound the same, but there’s a long-play LP on the way that’ll make these styles stick like your entry stamp to your wrist on a Monday morning.

Following up a stream of EPs for Public Possession, plus a host of remixes and collaborations, Bell Towers makes a welcome return with the first of a new batch of music, beginning with the irreverent single “Juicy Blend” – we’ve already featured the video here. The single is packaged as an EP featuring remixes by Bullion and Jaakko Eino Kalevi, plus an extended groove mix.

Today, we’re delighted to premiere a superb remix of the EPs title track from our beloved Finnish electronic musician Jaakko Eino Kalevi. Once again, Jaakko Eino Kalevi does an excellent job with his remix of “Juicy Blend, adding his signature touch. This is something special. Give it a spin above, exclusively on La.Ga.Sta.

The “Juicy Blen” EP drops on December 4th on Cascine and Public Possession, with the vinyl edition to follow on December 6th. Pre-order it here.

Jaakko Eino Kalevi: “Emotions in Motion” Video

Finnish electronic musician Jaakko Eino Kalevi returns with a new album, entitled “Out Of Touch”, which marks his second LP for Domino’s sub-label Weird World. The new 10-track record follows 2015’s self-titled album and Jaakko’s synth act Man Duo debut album “Orbit”, released last year.

Drawing inspiration from time spent in Athens, on “Out of Touch” the Finnish songwriter broadens his horizons while focusing on his inner self. “Everyone knows the meaning of out of touch and it usually has negative connotations, such as lacking the latest information,” he says. “But to be out of touch can be the most ideal state.” Written and produced by Jaakko Eino Kalevi in 2017 in studios in Helsinki and Berlin, where he lives, these ten new songs are among the richest he has composed. He also plays every instrument on the album, including the gliding lines of saxophone that lace the record’s lush grooves.

Our first taste from the forthcoming record comes in the form of “Emotions in Motion”. Directed by visual artist Ieva Kabasinskaite, the video for the track was shot in Paris on 35mm and 16mm film. Watch it above.

The album “Out Of Touch” arrives on October 12th on Weird World. Pre-order it here.

Now, we’ve got our hands on his superb cover of the track, featuring London-based Norwegian singer-songwriter Kari Jahnsen, better known as Farao. She was singing it all the time and soon I was singing it too, even without hearing the actual song. It became my power song.”

Finnish psych dreamer Jaakko Eino Kalevi has shared this milky new video for his latest single “Double Talk”, one of the standout cuts from his recently released self-titled debut LP. In his own words: “The original idea for the video was me performing in a white loft in front of an audience. But this wasn’t enough and so we added some melting magma. So now there are double parts for ‘Double Talk’ – the melting magma and me performing.”
