The new release on John Talabot’s highly acclaimed Hivern Discs imprint comes from up-and-coming Spanish producer Orbe, owner of Orbe Records. His debut release for the label, an EP titled “Uniformity”, includes six tracks somewhere between electro and techno that came to life in his Madrid studio when Fernando, as himself puts it, “stopped thinking about anything and started making music for myself”. Simple, pure and perfect.

The “Uniformity” 12″ arrived on July 7th. Pre-order it here.

Originally produced in 2003 for a “punk oriented art installation”, the track “Moderno” from Riccione’s finest Margot is one of their most special tracks ever. Fourteen years later, “Moderno” finally gets a proper release via John Talabot’s Hivern Discs, and still sounds as fresh and contemporary as it can be. The 12” comes complete with two remixes of the title track by Barcelona producer Marc Piñol, whose sound keeps flourishing with each track.

The “Moderno” 12” drops on June 2. Pre-order it here.

Lawrence Le Doux: “Music For Documentaries”

The next release on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs sublabel HVNX is a pretty special one. It comes from Belgian producer Lawrence Le Doux, real name Laurent Baudoux, with an album called “Music For Documentaries”. The 14-track record contains some of the music Lawrence Le Doux wrote for Brussels-based filmmaker and activist Fabrizio Terranova’s film “Donna Haraway: Story Telling for Earthly Survival”, a documentary about Donna Haraway, a science philosopher known for his work on gender, identity, technology and trans-species relationships, including her milestone “A Cyborg Manifesto”.

“All of the tracks were created using a limited amount instruments, with a deliberate crossover of old synthesizers like a Farfisa organ or Sequential Circuits’s Pro-One and 90’s technology like the Roland JD-800. It is curious that Lawrence says all his synths are “half-broken”, since the sounds he extracts from them are absolutely healing,” according to the label. Get a taste of Lawrence Le Doux’s LP with two blissful cuts, “Cayenne” and “Alien”.

“Music For Documentaries” arrives on May 19th via Hivern Discs. Pre-order it here.

Having already impressed with his quality remix of The xx’s “Reunion” and John Talabot’s “Without You”, Barcelona-based producer Franc Sayol, aka Mistakes Are OK, returns with his new single “Forgiven”, his first offering of original material, and it’s a great one. Set to drop on November 13 on John Talabot’s label, Hivern Discs, the singles comes backed with a pair of remixes by German producer Edward from the White family. The track “Forgiven”, a captivating slo-mo, hazy number, is the first taste from Mistakes Are OK’s upcoming debut album “Nowhere Near”, slated for release early next year. Enjoy the ride.

Spanish producer and Analogue Solutions label founder Eduardo De La Calle lands on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs with his second release, a four-tracker called “Nanoscopic Scales” of quality deep and driving melodic techno. Our favorite cut from the EP is “Format Times”, which finds the veteran producer delivering a moody, captivating and finely crafted track that runs through a host of poignant melodies and cosmic arpeggios. This one is ideally suited for a late-night ride. Give it a spin above.
