Abrão: “Por Ela (Gerd Janson Backwards Remix)”

Following the release of “Bigamo Remixed Pt. 1″ EP back in April, Âme’s Frank Wiedemann series exploring the back catalogue of his imprint Bigamo through the lens of friends of the label continues with the second installment. This time round, Wiedemann taps the minds of Running Back boss Gerd Janson, Alex from Tokyo & Neil Flynn, and Rina for remix duties on works by Abrão and Fred und Luna.

The EP opens with a “backwards” remix of Abrão’s “Por Ela” by Gerd Janson. On the six-minute remix, the playful tone of the original born again as a stylish house cut filled with deep pads under Janson’s capable guidance. Central to the track is the reversal of the genre’s iconic deep keys into a rolling hypnotic overture, which, filling the senses with lush lower frequencies, only highlights the crisp perfection of the percussion. Abrão’s naturally percussive vocals are heavily manipulated, and all the better for it.

The “Bigamo Remixed Pt. 2” EP arrives on June 19th via Bigamo. Pre-order it here.

Âme’s Frank Wiedemann calls up friends and family for remix duties on nine tracks from the back catalogue of his eclectic label, Bigamo, reaching for some of the most respected names in electronic music to dig into the archives. The first three form the first of a trio of remix EPs, with Red Axes, Sado V (one half of Red Axes) and Dengue Dengue Dengue taking their talents to tracks from Brazilian-born Israel-based singer/songwriter Abrão and duo Keope.

Tel Aviv power pair Red Axes are no stranger to Abrão’s work, with the latter’s vocals featuring on their 2014 debut album “Ballad Of The Ice” on I’m A Cliché and 2015’s “Sabor” EP. The familiarity shows itself in the Israeli duo’s careful rearranging of “Aguas Sagradas Do Ganges” into a sundowner-set beauty, opening the track up to the dancefloor whilst preserving the original’s measured approach and plaintive vocals. Sublime from start to finish. The original track is lifted from Abrão’s 2018 “Omnam” LP, produced by Red Axes.

The “Bigamo Remixed Pt. 1” EP is out now via Bigamo. Get it here.

Howling: “Bind” Video

Howling, the production duo of Berlin-based producer and Innervisions co-founder Frank Wiedemann (of Âme fame) and LA-based singer-songwriter Ry X (of The Acid), are back with their sophomore full-length album, entitled “Colure”, the sharper follow-up to their 2015’s debut LP “Sacred Ground”.

On the new 13-track record, Howling conjure transcendent creations out of their contrasting musical backgrounds and environments. The album is assuredly dualistic: electronic and acoustic sounds sit comfortably side-by-side, and big melodic hooks are laced into hypnotic club productions. The record’s first single, the introspective, bass-driven “Bind”, arrives with a video by Benton C Bainbridge. And if that’s not enough, you can watch a video for another new track off the album, the steady-built euphoric “Phases”, below.

The “Colure” LP drops on July 24th via Counter Records. Pre-order it here.

After exploding onto the scene with an accidental hit “Howling” all the way back in 2012, Berlin-based producer and Innervisions co-founder Frank Wiedemann (of Âme fame) and Australian-born, LA-based folk singer Ry X (of The Acid) have returned with their stellar new single “Signs” as Howling. Beautiful and hypnotic, “Signs” is a shining representative of Howling’s upcoming debut album “Sacred Ground”, which will drop on May 4th through Modeselektor’s Monkeytown and Ninja Tune’s sub-label Counter Records.

“Our process was very, very organic. For both of us, it’s just about the creation. Each song has a little journey of its own. The vision’s beautiful between us because there’s a lot of trust. It’s a very intuitive process where we fall in love with one element of the song or one element of a thought, and we follow that until both of those ideas have been met,” says Ry X. Give “Signs” a spin above and watch the video for the track, directed by Ry X and Constantin Demner, below. You can pre-order the LP here.
