A guy called Sad Brad Smith wrote one of the most beautiful songs you will hear in a movie this year. We talking about the melancholy ballad “Help Yourself” from Jason Reitman’s (“Thank You For Smoking”, “Juno”) new film “Up In The Air” starring George Clooney. Reitman discovered the Chicago-based singer-songwriter through his brother-in-law, who became a fan after seeing a performance by Smith at a Chicago coffee shop. Even if he wins the Oscar he will still be a sad guy writing songs in the Simon & Garfunkel way…

    Unfortunately, both Help Yourself and Up in the Air have been withdrawn from consideration for the Best Original Song. Portions of Smith’s song existed as part of previous songs he wrote and Renick wrote the song before he met Reitman.
