São Paulo’s Phillipi & Rodrigo, otherwise known as Fatnotronic, are gearing up to release their debut album, entitled “Paciencia” on Soulwax’s label Deewee on February 22. Described by David and Stephen as sounding as sounding “like Stereolab in 2019 singing in Portuguese while a Batucada band performs at a Brazilian beach techno party”, the record features nine boasting songs about the cosmos, relationships, nostalgia and signs of the Zodiac. The duo’s trippy video for their new single “Retrogrado” takes you on a psychedelic voyage through the galaxy, with Brazilian star Pepita. Watch it above.

Words: Elice

Our beloved Tendts are back once again with a sunbleached great EP, which is out via San Francisco’s Public Release. “Cosmic Swimmer” is here to remind us that summer is not that far away. The Greek brotherly duo, Christos and Fotis Papadakis, have delivered a soft and cushy track, a charmed layer cake of round, full-bodied hand drums, airy pads, and washed-out vocal harmonies. A breezy, wide-open endless groove which is being accompanied by three top-notch remixes.

Our pick is the work of another brother duo, Soulwax, who make a very rare, celebrated appearance here by serving up their own bottom-heavy take on the tune! The track is injected with a tropical taste, spotlighted with a low-slung bassline and Soulwax’s trademark finger-plucked bass struts. It’s simply amazing!

And don’t forget to dance to New York City’s Kim Ann Foxman’s vigorous remix, and Eric ‘Dr. Dunks’ Duncan’s acid- flecked interpretation that thrusts the record into peak-hour rave territories.

The “Cosmic Swimmer” EP is out now via Public Release. Get your copy here.

Brazilian production duo Mixhell recently dropped their latest single “Crocodile Boots’, a collaborative tune with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, featuring Mutado Pintado. Now, the track has received an excellent remix and accompanying visual from Belgian electro-pioneers Soulwax. Speaking on the video, Mixhell’s Igor Cavalera says “this video is an amazing compilation of mad ideas from Mutado’s brain mixed with the low-fi images of Laima and himself on a duet between the confused red neck and a Portuguese/Brazilian spoken girl.” The “Crocodile Boots” Remixes EP, which also includes remixes by Joe Goddard himself and London-based Party Nails, arrives on January 27th via Delayed.
